titleOfInvention | PROCEDURE FOR THE SELECTIVE DISPROPORATION OF AROMATIC COMPOUNDS WITH INCREASED CONVERSION. |
abstract | Procedure for the selective disproportionation of aromatic compounds with increased conversion. An improved process for the selective disproportionation of toluene is described. The process preferably uses a disproportionation catalyst comprising a pentasil type zeolite such as MFI which is bonded with aluminum phosphate. Carrying out the process at a toluene conversion of greater than 30% by weight and a hydrogen to hydrocarbon ratio of less than 3.0, and especially a ratio of 0.1 to 1.0, improves the maximum yield of paraxylene. Periodic rejuvenation by increasing the hydrogen to hydrocarbon ratio removes some carbon deposits and restores catalytic activity. An inert diluent gas aids in the selective pre-coking of the catalyst as well. |
