titleOfInvention | MICROBIOLOGICAL PROCEDURE FOR THE PREPARATION OF MENADIONA. |
abstract | The invention provides an alternative process for the preparation of menadione, also known as vitamin K3, which avoids acidic residues and the use of toxic chemical compounds, making it an economical, safe and environmentally benign process. The method comprises culturing Bacillus cereus bacteria, particularly Bacillus cereus biotype I, in a suitable culture medium comprising one or more substrates, preferably 2-methylnaphthalene, 2-methyl-1-naphthol or mixtures thereof, and more preferably, 2-methylnaphthalene. . The use of microorganisms as biocatalysts allows a selective process in which substantially no isomer is produced. |
