abstract | In vitro method for generating insulin-producing beta cells from a population comprising exocrine pancreas cells dedifferentiated from a first mammal, said method comprising the steps of: a) providing a population comprising exocrine pancreatic cells dedifferentiated in a culture medium, b) adding one or more gp130 receptor ligands of a second mammal and / or adding one or more epidermal growth factor receptor (EGF) ligands of a third mammal to said culture medium, c) incubating said undifferentiated exocrine pancreatic cells in said culture medium comprising said one or more gp130 receptor ligands and / or said one or more EGF receptor ligands, wherein said one or more EGF receptor ligands are selected from EGF, Transformation Growth Factor-alpha , anfirregulin, betacellulin or Poxvirus Growth Factor, and where said one or more receptor ligands r gp130 are selected from Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF), IL-6, IL-11, OSM oncostatin M (OSM), Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor (CNTF), granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1), IL-12 or Leptin. |
