abstract Procedure for obtaining a compound of formula (IV) ** see formula ** in which X 1 and X 2, equal or different, are linear or branched C 1-C 8 alkyls, n and m are 0, 1 or 2, with the condition that n and m are not simultaneously 0; or (OX1) n and (OX2) m taken together form a group -OTO- in which T is chosen from -CH2-, -CH2CH2-, -CH2CH2CH2-, -C (CH3) 2-, said procedure comprising the following steps : (i) treating a chloromethyl derivative of formula (I) with an alkaline acetate, forming an acetyl derivative of formula (II), in which X1, X2, m and n have the aforementioned meanings; ** see formula ** (ii) hydrolyze the compound (II) to form the alcohol (III), in which X 1, X 2, m and n have the aforementioned meanings; ** see formula ** (iii) catalytic oxidation of alcohol (III) to form the final compound (IV) in which the process (iii) is performed by treating the product of step (ii) in the liquid phase with air or oxygen and an alkaline hydroxide used at a ratio of hydroxide / alcohol (III) equivalents of between 1 and 2, in the presence of a suitable oxidation catalyst.
