titleOfInvention | CONTINUOUS PROCESS TO POLYMERIZE, CURE AND DRY EMULSIONS WITH HIGH CONTENT IN THE INTERNAL PHASE. |
abstract | A process for the continuous production of an emulsion foam with high polymerized internal phase content comprising: a) providing an emulsion with high internal phase content (HIPE) comprising: i) an oily external phase comprising one or more monomers polymerizable vinyl; ii) a surfactant in an amount effective to produce a HIPE; and iii) an aqueous internal phase b) depositing the HIPE on a lower mobile support substrate; c) level the HIPE to a desired thickness above the support substrate; d) polymerize the monomers by passing the HIPE and the lower mobile support substrate through a heating zone for a time sufficient to polymerize at least 75% of the monomers in the HIPE at the end of the heating zone; and e) drying the polymerized HIPE in a drying zone comprising one or more compression rollers, infrared radiation, radio wave radiation, and a vacuum for a sufficient time to produce a foam having more than 50% of the phase Internal removed. |
