abstract |
The present invention pertains to polynucleotides derived from staphylococcal genes encoding resistance to streptogramin A or streptogramin B, and chemically related compounds. This invention also relates to the use of polynucleotides as primers or oligonucleotide probes to detect staphylococcal strains that are resistant to streptogramin A or streptogramin B and related compounds in a biological sample. In another embodiment, the present invention is directed to the complete coding sequences of the staphylococcal genes encoding resistance to streptogramin A or to streptogramin B of Staphylococcus, and to the polypeptides expressed by these complete coding sequences. In addition, this invention relates to the use of polypeptides expressed for the production of specific monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies that serve as a means of detection to characterize any staphylococcal strain that carries genes encoding streptogramin A or streptogramin B resistance. |
