abstract An apparatus for measuring body composition, comprising: a plurality of electrodes (11-18) to be brought into contact with a plurality of predetermined parts, associated, respectively, with said electrodes, of the body of a subject; a retention part (2) that can be held with one hand by said subject; a cable (3) with one end connected to said retaining part; a support part (1) on which a foot of said subject can rest, said support part including a reel part (5) connected to the other end of said cable for winding said cable, a first detection unit (36 ) to detect a length drawn up to which said cable is removed from said reel part, and a second detection unit (37) to detect the angle formed by said support part and said cable; said apparatus further comprising measuring the body composition a first unit (101, S204, S206) for calculating the length of a part intended to calculate the length of a body part of said subject based on said extracted length detected by said first detection unit and at said angle detected by said second detection unit; a first measuring unit (102, S304, S306) to measure the impedance of said body part using said plurality of electrodes; and a first unit (103, S404, S406) for calculating the body composition for calculating the body composition of said body part based on said calculated length of said part and on said measured impedance.
