MICROORGANISMS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE NOT PATHOGENS. |
abstract |
A purified microorganism comprising surface proteins and substantially intact nuclear components, in which one or more surface proteins have been irreversibly modified by a modifying reagent, such that the microorganism has therefore become non-pathogenic; and wherein the irreversible modification is selected from: (i) covalent incorporation of a compound comprising one or more functional groups reactive to one or more reactive sites in said surface proteins; or (ii) at least partial digestion by an enzyme. |
