abstract A process for extracting from an aqueous solution the calcium or alkali metal salt of a 2-hydroxypyridine or a 2-hydroxyquinoline or a 2-hydroxybenzothiazole, with halo or haloalkyl substitution, which comprises contacting a neutral or alkaline aqueous solution of the calcium or alkali metal salt, in which a fluoride, chloride, bromide, hydroxide, sulfate, sulphite, cyanate, cyanide, thiocyanate, thiosulfate, sulphide, phosphate, hydrogen phosphate, carbonate, bicarbonate, borate, chlorate, hypochlorite are dissolved , perchlorate, nitrite, chromate, dichromate or alkali metal permanganate, or chloride, bromide, nitrate, nitrite, chlorate, hypochlorite, perchlorate, thiocyanate, thiosulfate, chromate, dichromate or calcium permanganate, with a partially water-miscible organic solvent, which can dissolve between 1 and 50% w / w of water, so as to transfer the aqueous solution of the calcium or alkali metal salt of 2-hydroxypyridine, 2-hydroxyquinoline or 2-hydroxybenzothiazo l to the solvent while keeping the aqueous phase and the solvent phase apart and, subsequently, separating the solvent phase containing the calcium or alkali metal salt and water from the aqueous phase, the ratio of the solvent to water being in the solvent phase separated from 0.5: 1 to 10: 1 p / p.
