abstract A method for the preparation of (S) - (+) - 10, 11-dihydro-10-hydroxy-5H-dibenz / b, f / azepine-5-carboxamide, comprising the steps of: (1) reacting ( ñ) -10, 11-dihydro-10-hydroxy-5H-dibenz / b, f / racemic azepine-5-carboxamide with tartaric acid anhydride (2R, 3R) -di-O, O '' - substituted to give a Separable mixture (1: 1) of 10-O-di-O, O '' tartrate diastereoisomeric hemiesters - substituted by (ñ) -10, 11-dihydro-10-hydroxy-5H-dibenz / b, f / azepine- 5-carboxamide; (2) precipitation of the less soluble soluble 10-O-di-O, O '' - substituted tartrate hemiester formed in step (1) by adding water and separating it by filtration; and (3) catalyzed hydrolysis based on the less soluble 10-O-di-O, O '' - substituted tartrate hemiester hemiester obtained in step (2) to give the (S) - (+) - 10, 11- dihydro-10-hydroxy-5H-dibenz / b, f / optically pure azepine-5-carboxamide, in which the substituted tartaric acid anhydride (2R, 3R) -di-O, O '' - has the formula: where each R is the same and is C1 to C6 alkyl, or each R is phenyl.
