abstract A solid laundry detergent composition having a density of 330 grams / liter at 1400 grams / liter comprising a total amount of surfactant from 1% to 25%, by weight of the detergent composition, a) at least 0, 5%, preferably at least 5%, more preferably at least 10%, by weight of the composition of a surfactant system, comprising branched half chain, longer alkyl chain surfactant compounds of formula: (See formula) in where: (I) A b is a branched alkyl moiety in the middle of the hydrophobic chain having a total of 9 to 22 carbons in the remainder, preferably 12 to about 18, which has: (1) a longer linear carbon chain bound to the remainder -XB in the range of 8 to 21 carbon atoms; (2) one or more C1-C3 alkyl moieties branching from this longer linear carbon chain; (3) at least one of the alkyl moieties of the branching is directly attached to a carbon of the longest linear carbon chain at a position within the range from the carbon of position 2, counting from the carbon of position 1 ( No. 1) which is attached to the rest -XB, to the position of the terminal carbon minus 2 carbons, (carbon (! -2)), and (4) when more than one of these compounds is present, the average total number of Carbon atoms in the A b -X moieties in the above formula are in the range of more than 14.5 to about 18, preferably about 15 to about 17; (II) B is a hydrophilic moiety selected from sulfates, sulphonates, amine oxides, polyoxyalkylene, preferably polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene, alkoxylated sulfates, polyhydroxy moieties, phosphate esters, glycerol sulfonates, polygluconates, polyphosphate esters, phosphonates, sulphosuccinates, sulfosuccinates, sulfosuccinates , glucamides, taurinates, sarcosinates, glycinates, isethionates, dialkanolamides, monoalkanolamides, monoalkanolamide sulfates, diglycolamides, diglycolamide sulfates, glycerol esters, glycerol sulfate esters, glycerol ethers, glycerol ether sulfates, polyglycol ether ethers sorbitan esters, polyalkoxylated sorbitan esters, ammonium alkanesulfonates, amidopropyl betaines, alkylated quaternary compounds, alkylated / polyhydroxyalkylated quaternary compounds, alkylated quaternary compounds, alkylated / polyhydroxylated quaternary compounds, imidazolines, 2-yl-su cycinates, sulphonated alkyl esters and sulphonated fatty acids; and (III) X is selected from -CH2- and -C (O) -; and b) from 1% to 20% by weight of the composition of a detergency builder system; and c) from 5% to 30% by weight of the composition of an alkalinity system comprising carbonate salts, with the proviso that when system a) is present at a level of 3% by weight and system b) is present at a level of 19% by weight, the alkalinity system c) does not comprise 8% by weight of sodium carbonate.
