abstract Method of silage of fresh forage and of increase of protein content of the product thus obtained, characterized in that the acid ammonium bisulfate (NH subscript 4 HSO subscript 4) is incorporated either dissolved in water or in solid state in the forage material in such quantities that the pH limit of 4, critical for the conservation of fresh forage, is achieved by the influence of ammonium bisulfate and lactic acid formed in the silage, while ammonium nitrogen, partly as such and partly converted into amide and amino nitrogen in silage, functions in the omasum as protein nitrogen.
