titleOfInvention METHOD FOR REDUCING CARBOXIBENZALDEHIDO ISOMERS IN TEREFTALIC ACID OR ISOFTALIC ACID.
abstract A method for reducing 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4- CBA) in the production of terephthalic acid (TPA) or 3-carboxybenzaldehyde (3-CBA) in the production of isophthalic acid (IPA), which comprises: (a) dissolving the crude TPA (or the crude IPA) in a solvent at a temperature of 50 ° C to 250 ° C to form a solution; (b) crystallize purified acid from said solution by reducing its temperature and / or its pressure; (c) separating said purified and crystallized TPA from said solution; (d) adding an oxidant to the CBA oxidation unit to oxidize said filtered solution in (c) causing the 4-CBA or 3-CBA to become TPA (or IPA); (e) evaporating the solvent from said solution of (d); (f) cooling the concentrated solution of (e) to crystallize additional purified TPA and filtering said suspension, and recycling the main part of the mother liquor from (f) to a dissolution unit in (a) and a secondary part of the waters mothers of (f) to a purge stream, wherein said oxidant is selected from the group consisting of anhydrous hydrogen peroxide in organic solvents, air, enriched air, pure oxygen, hydrogen peroxide in water, ozone, carbon tetrachloride, trichloroacetaldehyde, hexamine, acetone, cyclohexane, benzophenone, cinnamic aldehyde, dimethyl sulfoxide, sulphides, chiral oxidants, glyoxal, organic peroxyacids, such as permeric acid, peracetic acid, perbenzoic acid, perpropionic acid, permaleic acid, and permaleic acid.
