Process for the manufacture of polyesters with a reduced content of free acetaldehyde from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol through a melt catalyzed polycondensation, in which a) the catalyst is added before polycondensation, b) after reaching a viscosity intrinsic (VI) of the melt of 0.63 to 1, 00, which is reached without subsequent solid phase condensation, an inhibitor is added to deactivate the catalyst and c) then an excess of a substance that binds acetaldehyde is added free so that acetaldehyde is subsequently released, while maintaining a temperature below 280 ° C throughout the polycondensation process. |
