abstract THE INVENTION REFERS TO A SWITCHING DEVICE (1) THAT INCLUDES A TRANSPARENT SUBSTRATE (3), A SWITCHING FILM (5) THAT INCLUDES GADOLIN HYDROURTS OR OTHER TRIVAL AND MAGNESIUM METAL, COVERED WITH A LAYER (7). THROUGH THE HYDROGEN EXCHANGE, THE SWITCHING FILM MAY BE SWITCHED REVERSIBLE BETWEEN A TRANSPARENT STATE AND A SPECULAR STATE WITH NULL TRANSMISSION VIA AN INTERMEDIATE STATE OF BLACK ABSORPTION. CONVERSION BETWEEN THE TWO STATES IS REVERSIBLE AND THAT PHENOMENE CAN BE USED FOR EXAMPLE IN AN OPTICAL SWITCHING ELEMENT OR ON A SOLAR ROOF.
