titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF A SULFENIMIDE.
abstract A process for the manufacture of a sulfenimide of the formula (R1S -) - (R2S-) NR by reacting a sulfenamide having the formula R1S-NH-R, wherein R is selected from the group comprising t-butyl, cyclohexyl , or C1-C20 alkyl, R1 is selected from substituted or unsubstituted heterocycles containing one or more N, S, O and P atoms, said heterocycles may be substituted with C1-C20 alkyl groups, and R2 is selected from the same group that R1 and may be the same or different than R1, in suspension with water-immiscible organic solvent with an acid having an ionization constant, Ka, which is greater than 0.001 at 25 ° C, to produce a solvent suspension comprising a sulfenimide product, characterized in that said product is recovered from said solvent suspension by a method comprising adding water to said solvent suspension and isolating said product by a single filtration step, in which, m While water is added to said solvent suspension, a solvent azeotrope and water are distilled under vacuum until substantially all of the product is removed from the product and the product becomes part of an aqueous suspension, said aqueous suspension being filtered in said single filtration step to recover the product from said aqueous suspension, and said solvent is recycled for use in the reaction; or wherein, while adding water to said solvent suspension, the resulting mixture is stirred, followed by filtration of said mixture in said single filtration step to recover the product of said mixture, and said solvent is recycled for use in the reaction.
