abstract Process for separating copper from iron in an aqueous feed solution that includes dissolved copper and iron contents by contacting the feed solution with a water-immiscible organic solution comprising a hydrocarbon solvent and a compound of formula (I) wherein the various radials have the meanings indicated in the description, to form an aqueous phase constituted by iron and by an organic phase that includes the solvent hydrocarbon and a copper-extractant complex, whose copper-extractant complex is soluble in the solvent hydrocarbon. The groups R2-R5 are chosen so that the copper-extractant complex is soluble in the hydrocarbon solvent. Once the extraction step is completed and the organic and aqueous phases are separated, the organic phase is substantially free of iron and / or iron-extractant complex.
