titleOfInvention METHOD OF PRODUCTION OF HYDROXYLAMONY PHOSPHATE IN THE SYNTHESIS OF CAPROLACTAMA.
abstract A method for the production of caprolactam, comprising: (a) reacting air with ammonia gas in an ammonia conversion zone to produce nitric oxide; (b) oxidize at least a part of the nitric oxide to nitrogen dioxide to produce a working gas stream rich in NOx. (c) reactively absorb the NOx rich gas stream with a solution containing phosphoric acid in an adsorption zone to form nitrate ions; (d) contacting nitrate ions with air in the degassing zone to produce a nitrate-rich aqueous working stream; (e) reduce the nitrate rich aqueous stream with hydrogen in the presence of phosphoric acid to produce hydroxylammonium phosphate; (f) oxygenate hydroxylammonium phosphate with cyclohexanone to produce cyclohexanone oxime; and (g) convert cyclohexanone oxime into caprolactam; characterized by adding supplemental oxygen in a gaseous stream containing more than about 50% by volume of oxygen, downstream of the ammonia conversion zone, directly in the degassing zone, or in a secondary air stream that provides air to the degassing zone, to increase the amount and rate of formation of nitrogen dioxide in the NOx-rich working gas stream, the supplemental oxygen being added in the proportion of about 1, 8 to 4, 0 moles of oxygen per mole of additional NO produced in the ammonia converter as a result of the addition of supplemental oxygen; increase the amount of ammonia gas added to the ammonia conversion zone to increase the production of nitric oxide formed in the ammonia conversion zone; and divert a portion of the secondary air from the degassing zone to the ammonia conversion zone.
