abstract | Process for the development of a biofuel for diesel engines from methyl esters of Brassica carinata oil without erucic acid.n n n A new biofuel for diesel engines is proposed, obtained from the basic alcohol analysis of Brassica carinata seed oil, generically improved to eliminate the presence of erucic acid. For this, the oil is previously extracted from the seeds and subsequently a transesterification of the oil is carried out under reflux, with KOH and methanol, by stirring and with a thermostated bath. Once the methyl esters are obtained, they are purified by washing with a minimum amount of distilled water, minimizing the costs involved in the process. In this way, the CO2 emission generated in the combustion processes is reduced, since the one that is released by burning the fuel has been previously fixed by the crop when doing photosynthesis, thus closing the cycle. |
