Conjugated derivatives of erythropoietin. Conjugates of erythropoietin with poly (ethylene glycol) comprise a glycoprotein erythropoietin that has at least one free amino group, and exhibits a biological activity in vivo that causes bone marrow cells to increase the production of reticulocytes and red blood cells. It is selected from the group consisting of human erythropoietin, and the like, having the human erythropoietin sequence modified by the addition of between 1 and 6 glycosylation sites or by rearranging at least one glycosylation site. The derivatives of the invention are useful for the preparation of medicaments for the treatment or prophylaxis of diseases related to anemia in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF), AIDS and for the treatment of cancer patients treated with chemotherapy. |
