abstract The present invention relates to compounds corresponding to formula (1) in which R represents hydrogen or -C (O) - (CH {sub, 2}) {sub, m} -Q where Q is hydrogen or -COOH and m is an integer 1,2,3 or 4; R {sub, 1}, R {sub, 5} and R {sub, 6} are independently a C {sub, 1-6} alkyl group; R {sub, 2}, R {sub, 3} and R {sub, 4} are independently hydrogen or a C {sub, 1-6} alkyl group, Z is thiol, xoi or a methylene group; A is a C {sub, 1-4} alkylene group, X is thio or oxy, and G {sub, 1} and G {sub, 2} are independently hydrogen, C {sub, 1-6} or -C alkyl (O) - (CH {sub, 2}) {sub, n} -CH {sub, 3} and n is an integer number 0,1,2 or 3; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, useful for the treatment of atherosclerosis and chronic inflammatory disorders, to inhibit the expression of cytokine induced VCAM-1 and / or ICAM-1, to inhibit lipid peroxidation LDL, to reduce cholesterol of plasma; and as antioxidant chemical additives useful for the prevention of oxidative deterioration in organic materials.
