abstract |
Benzotriazole UV absorbers that have improved durability. UV absorbers of benzotriazole that are substituted at the 5 position of the benzo ring with an electron sequestration group exhibit improved durability and very low loss rates when incorporated into automotive coatings. This is particularly the case when position 3 of the phenyl group is also substituted by phenyl or phenylalkyl such as a-cumyl. Compounds in which the position 5 of the benzo ring is substituted by perfluoroalkyl such as trifluoromethyl are of particular interest for their improved durability and for their excellent solubility and excellent color properties in some thermoplastic compositions. |
