abstract Procedure for the production of a horticultural substrate from the residue of the cork industry, product obtained and its applications. The procedure comprises (a) moistening and fertilizing the waste from the cork industry, with a particle size of less than 4 mm. adding water and fertilizers that provide nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, calcium and magnesium; and (b) stack the waste and turn the piles periodically, controlling the humidity between 30 and 60%, the temperature between 50 and 60ÂșC, the pH between 4.5 and 7.5. The substrate obtained has applications in plant production, especially in the nursery sector and horticultural, floricultural and ornamental production in containers.
