abstract TRANS-CHALCONE (1,3-DIPHENYL-2-PROPEN-1-ONE) IS A PRODUCT BIOGENETICALLY DERIVED FROM PHENYL PROPANE CHARACTERIZED BY HAVING TWO AROMATIC RINGS UNITED BY A CHAIN WITH AN AL, BE UNSATURATED CARBONYL SYSTEM. IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT THIS MOLECULE HAS A POWERFUL NEMATICIDAL AND NEMATOSTATIC ACTION FOR PLANT-PARASITE NEMATODES (FORMULA I). THE OBJECT OF THE INVENTION IS TO DEFINE A PREVIOUSLY NOT DESCRIBED SUBSTANCE FOR THE CONTROL OF PLANT PARASITIC NEMATODES. IT IS ALSO THE OBJECT OF THE INVENTION TO GIVE NEW USES TO TRANS-CHALCONA AS A NEMATICIDE AND NEMATOSTATIC (IRREVERSIBLY INHIBITS THE HATCHING OF SECOND STAGE JUVENILES OF CYST NEMATODES). SUCH USES ARE NOT EVIDENT FROM THE STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE. THE OBJECT OF THE INVENTION IS SUBJECT TO INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION SINCE IT CAN BE OBTAINED BOTH BY CHEMICAL SYNTHESIS AND DIRECTLY FROM PLANTS.
