abstract PRIMER OF ELASTOMERS WITH SOLUTIONS OF POLYCARBOXYLIC ACIDS, TO FACILITATE THEIR JOINING THROUGH CONTACT ADHESIVES, GENERALLY BASED ON MONOCOMPONENT POLYURETHANES, CONSISTING OF RUBING THE SURFACE, PREVIOUSLY SANDED, OF THE ELASTOMER WITH SOLUTIONS OF POLYCARBOXYLIC ACID. THE ACID FACILITATES THE ELIMINATION OF ZINC STEARATE AND LEADS TO THE CREATION OF C = 0 GROUPS ON THE SURFACE OF THE ELASTOMER. THIS TREATMENT CAN BE AN ALTERNATIVE TO CHLORINATION, A USUAL PROCEDURE TO FACILITATE THE UNION BETWEEN ELASTOMERS AND POLYURETHANE ADHESIVES. ITS ADVANTAGES, COMPARED TO CHLORINATION, LAY IN AN OBSERVABLE REDUCTION IN THE DURATION OF THE TREATMENT, IN AN ELIMINATION OF THE TOXICITY DERIVED FROM THE CHLORINATION AGENTS AND IN THE GOOD STABILITY OF THE TREATMENT SOLUTIONS. IT HAS ITS APPLICATION IN THE FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY, AS WELL AS IN OTHER RELATED INDUSTRIES.
