abstract A detergent / dispersant prepared by a process of reacting: (i) triethylenetetramine or a combination of ethylenepolyamines that approximates triethylenetetramine with (ii) at least one acyclic hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent, characterized in that the substituent contains an average of 50 to 90 carbon atoms, and because said acylating agent has an acid number in the range of 0.9 to 1.3, said detergent / dispersant containing in its molecular structure in chemically combined form an average of 1 .5 to 2.2 moles of (ii) per mole of (i).
