abstract THE OBJECT OF THE INVENTION IS A PROCESS FOR COATING WITH TITANIUM DIOXIDE PIGMENTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH WHICH A DISPERSION OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE IN WATER IS FORMED, OPTIONALLY IN THE PRESENCE OF A DISPERSING AGENT, SUCH AS WATER AND SOLUBLE SILICATE OR , AFTER WHICH ADDED TO THE DISPERSION (1) OF THE TITANTIO DIOXIDE PIGMENT IS AN IDROLIZABLE TITANIUM COMPOUND IN A QUANTITY OF BETWEEN 0.1 AND 1.5%, (2) A WATER-SOLUBLE PHOSPHATE IN A QUANTITY BETWEEN 0.1 AND 1.0, (3) A HYDROLYZABLE ACIDIC ZIRCONIUM SALT IN A QUANTITY BETWEEN 0.1 AND 1.4%; THE MIX BECOMES ALKALINE WITH A BASE, AND (4) A WATER-SOLUBLE ALKALINE ALKALINE COMPOUND IS ADDED IN A QUANTITY BETWEEN 0.5 AND 5.5%, AFTER WHICH THE ALKALINE MIXTURE IS NEUTRALIZED WITH AN ACID AND PIG COATED TITANIUM DIOXIDE IS RECOVERED. THE PIGMENT PRODUCED HAS AN EXCELLENT WATER RESISTANCE.
