THE EXPRESSED PEPTIDES ARE ADHERED TO MEMBRANES OF NITROCELLULOSE, NYLON, OR SIMILAR, AND ORDERED IN THE FORM OF A MATRIX OF SEVERAL MM DIAMETER POINTS. THE MEMBRANE, WITH PEPTIDES REPRESENTATIVE OF ONE OR SEVERAL PATHOGENS, IS INCUBATED WITH A PARTICULAR TEST SERUM, DEVELOPED WITH A SECOND CHROMOGENIC, FLUORESCENT OR RADIOACTIVE REAGENT, TO DETERMINE WHICH OF THE ANTIGENIC PEPTIDE(S) OF THE MEMBRANE HAS REACTED WITH THE CORRESPONDING ONES SPECIFIC ANTIBODIES PRESENT IN THE TEST SERUM. THE RESULT INDICATES THAT PATHOGEN IS THE INFECTANT, PRESENT OR PAST, OF THE TESTED SERUM AND, POTENTIALLY, OTHER DETAILS OF THE INFECTION.
