titleOfInvention Cannula for administering a local anesthetic for castration of a piglet
abstract Disclosed herein is a cannula for administering a local anesthetic for castration of a piglet. The cannula comprises a hollow shaft extending from a proximal end to a distal end, wherein the distal end of the hollow shaft comprises a needle tip for inserting the distal end through a scrotal skin of a scrotum of the piglet into a testicle of the piglet. A depth reference is arranged along the hollow shaft, the depth reference indicating a depth up to which the hollow shaft is to be inserted into the scrotum. The hollow shaft comprises a plurality of openings for releasing the local anesthetic from the hollow shaft through each of the openings simultaneously. The plurality of openings comprises a distal opening arranged at the distal end of the hollow shaft, a distal lateral opening arranged on a side face of the hollow shaft, and a proximal lateral opening arranged on a side face of the hollow shaft. A center of the distal lateral opening is arranged at a first distance from the needle tip, the first distance being between 2.5 mm and 6.0 mm. The proximal lateral opening is arranged between the depth reference and the distal lateral opening and a center of the proximal lateral opening is arranged at a second distance from the depth reference, the second distance being between 0.5 mm and 2.0 mm.
