abstract | The present invention relates to a method for deodorising 1,2-alkanediols. The process is characterized in that malodorous organic impurities are purified in mixtures comprising 1,2-alkanediols, such as are usually obtained after the synthesis from the corresponding 1-alkenes. The 1,2-alkanediols are deodorized by separating them from the organic impurities by distillation, the mixture to be purified being mixed with an additive before or during the separation by distillation. The additive is at least one, optionally hydroxylated, carboxylic acid having 3 to 20 carbon atoms and 2 to 10 carboxyl functions. The 1,2-alkanediols deodorized by the process according to the invention are particularly suitable for use in cosmetic products or in household cleaning products. |
