abstract The invention mainly relates to a biomass based activated carbon as adsorbent for the separation of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide from a gas containing at least carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and inert components such as nitrogen and hydrogen, said biomass based activated carbon having a porous structure prepared from olive stones and impregnated with copper chloride. The invention also relates to a method of separation of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide from a gas containing at least carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and inert components such as nitrogen and hydrogen, wherein said gas is subjected to flow through a CO2 and CO adsorbent layer comprising said biomass based activated carbon.
