[The present invention relates to the use of sol-gel matrix to prevent or reduce the degradation of pipes of an existing water distribution network. More specifically, the invention discloses a pipe element of an existing water distribution network having:a. a pipe body extending along a central axis, the pipe body having an internal surface and an external surface; andb. a coating applied onto said internal surface, said coating comprising a sol-gel matrix obtained by a sol-gel processed composition.The present invention also relates to a method for coating the internal surface of a pipe body of a pipe element of an existing water distribution network using a sol-gel matrix obtained by a sol-gel processed composition.] |
