abstract The invention relates to the use of the relative value of the gene expression level of the gene for ADIPOQ and/or of a gene, the expression of which is linearly statistically correlated with that of the gene ADIPOQ in the prognosis or diagnosis of type II diabetes mellitus of a subject. The invention further relates to a method for the prognosis and/or diagnosis of a type II diabetes mellitus for the classification of a subject in risk groups, wherein the gene expression level of the gene ADIPOQ and/or of a gene, the expression of which is linearly statistically correlated with that of the gene ADIPOQ and the classification of the subject is subsequently carried out taking into account said gene expression level in risk groups.
