The present invention relates to a process for preparing a salt of a hydroxyl-substituted phosphoric acid diester, comprising: (a) reacting a phosphating agent with a monohydric alcohol and with a propylene glycol, the molar ratio of the monohydric alcohol: propylene glycol being greater than about 4: 1 and an excess of the phosphating agent being used so that the product mixture formed thereby contains a phosphoric acid functionality; and (b) reacting the product mixture of step (a) with an amine. The product is useful as an antiwear agent. |
