The present invention relates to the discovery that the inhibition of element 2 of the solute transporter family (Slc6a2) exerts a sympathomimetic effect outside the brain that promotes weight loss without concomitant hypophagy or hyperkinesia. The invention provides compounds for inhibiting Slc6a2 outside the brain, as well as methods for promoting weight loss and treating obesity with such compounds. |
