abstract |
The present invention relates to a composition which is an inverse emulsion comprising crosslinked anionic organic polymeric microparticles, said microparticles having an average particle size of diameter not inflated less than 0.75 μm, the organic polymeric microparticles being formed from a monomer mixture comprising (a) an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or a salt thereof; (b) an ethylenically unsaturated nonionic monomer; and (c) 1 to 10 mol% 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid or a corresponding salt. The invention also relates to a process for preparing the composition, the use of the composition in a paper or paperboard manufacturing process, and methods of making paper or paperboard using the composition. |
