Bio-electrochemical sensor, system and method for monitoring and controlling organic carbon levels in a wastewater treatment process |
abstract |
The present invention generally relates to a system for monitoring or controlling the supply of one or more organic carbon compounds to a wastewater treatment system. The system includes a bioelectrochemical sensor for monitoring the metabolic activity of a population of exoelectrogenic bacteria and providing electrical output power corresponding to metabolic activity, the bioelectrochemical sensor comprising a pair of electrodes and a power source for providing a voltage on either side of the pair of electrodes, and a current analyzer for analyzing the electrical power at the output and correlating the electrical power with one or more agents in the wastewater treatment system. The invention also relates to a method and a sensor for monitoring or controlling the delivery of one or more organic carbon compounds to a wastewater treatment system. |
