Embodiments of the present invention provide compositions comprising a latent catalyst and a thermal activator or a photoactivator together with one or more monomers which undergo ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) when said composition is heated to a temperature of 50 ° C to 100 ° C or higher to form a substantially transparent film. Alternatively, the compositions of the present invention are further polymerized when exposed to suitable radiation. The monomers used therein have a refractive index range of 1.4 to 1.6 and, therefore, these compositions can be adapted to form transparent films having different refractive indices. The compositions of this invention further comprise inorganic nanoparticles which form transparent films and, in addition, increase the refractive indices of the compositions. Accordingly, the compositions of this invention are useful in various optoelectronic applications, including use as coatings, encapsulating agents, fillers, leveling agents, among others. |
