abstract The present invention relates to obtaining an enzymatic process for the preparation of 1β, 3α, 7α, 12α-tetrahydroxybiliary acid (Formula I). The enzymatic process according to the present invention is advantageous over conventional synthetic preparations, providing for the selective insertion of a hydroxyl group without the need to employ protecting groups or other synthetic maneuvers.
