The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of methyl methacrylate from methacrolein and methanol; said method comprising contacting in a reactor a mixture comprising methacrolein, methanol and oxygen with a heterogeneous catalytic catalyst bed comprising a carrier and a noble metal, the base being added to the reactor while maintaining the time to reach 95% homogeneity in less than 10 minutes. |
