abstract A method of monitoring uterine activity can include: acquiring a plurality of signals from a plurality of sensors during uterine activity; treating the plurality of signals to extract a plurality of features from uterine electrical activity; to analyze the plurality of characteristics of uterine electrical activity; and classify uterine activity as falling into one of the following categories: pre-term labor contraction, labor contraction, Braxton-Hicks contraction, and non-contraction state. A method of evaluating a preterm birth risk over time in a pregnant woman may include: calculating a baseline premature birth risk score based on user input; acquiring, over time, a signal from a sensor; analyzing the signal to extract a parameter of interest, said parameter of interest comprising a physiological parameter; and calculating an instantaneous premature birth risk score based at least in part on the parameter of interest and the user input.
