abstract |
Aspects of the present invention include methods of reducing the deleterious impact of a target gene in a cell, such as the deleterious activity of a target gene containing a mutant extended nucleotide repeat (NR) in a cell by contacting the cell with an effective amount of a tetrahydrocarbazolamine compound. The deleterious activity (e.g., the toxicity and / or dysfunction of products encoded thereby) of a target gene containing a mutant extended NR can be reduced, for example, by reducing (and in some cases reducing) differentially, including selectively) the production or activity of toxic expression products (eg, RNA or proteins) encoded by the target gene. The invention also relates to kits and compositions for carrying out the methods of the invention. |
