abstract A method for establishing a body region state is provided in various embodiments. The method may comprise establishing at least one body state parameter and establishing the body region state using the at least one body state parameter, wherein establishing at least one body state parameter may include recording, during the sequential exposure of the body region of the user with light of different colours by means of the display of a portable data processing apparatus, a plurality of images of at least part of the light which has interacted with the body region, establishing a spectral characteristic of the body region by means of the plurality of images, comparing the spectral characteristic with calibration spectral characteristics obtained for a plurality of calibration body regions and establishing at least one body state parameter taking account of a result of the comparison.
