abstract According to an aspect, there is provided an apparatus (4, 6, 7) for assessing the health of a subject. The apparatus (4, 6, 7) comprises one or more processing units (8, 28, 48) configured to receive an input from a subject as part of a conversation between the subject and a virtual assistant module; analyse the received input to identify one or more terms relating to a medical condition or a potential medical condition of the subject; obtain physiological characteristic and/or activity measurements for the subject from one or more physiological characteristic and/or activity sensors (18) associated with the subject; process the identified one or more terms, medical history information for the subject and the obtained physiological characteristic and/or activity measurements to determine an adjustment to a measurement frequency and/or measurement sensitivity of the one or more physiological characteristic and/or activity sensors (18) in order to obtain additional context information for the subject, the additional context information comprising one or more additional physiological characteristic and/or activity measurements for the subject; adjust the measurement frequency and/or measurement sensitivity of the one or more physiological characteristic and/or activity sensors (18) according to the determined adjustment and obtain the additional context information using the one or more physiological characteristic and/or activity sensors (18); determine if a notification to a care provider is required based on the identified one or more terms, the medical history information, the obtained physiological characteristic and/or activity measurements and the obtained additional context information; generate, if a notification to a care provider is required, a summary for the care provider including information extracted from the conversation, the physiological characteristic and/or activity measurements and the additional context information; and cause the presentation of the generated summary to the care provider.
