abstract |
In an embodiment, a method of forming a bisphenol, comprises feeding a phenolic compound and an oxomethylene compound into a reactive separation column comprising a catalyst and reacting the phenolic compound and the oxomethylene compound to produce the bisphenol and water; wherein the feeding comprises feeding the oxomethylene compound in the reactive separation column in an amount of greater than or equal to 6 wt% based on a total weight of the phenolic compound and the oxomethylene compound; feeding a dehydrating agent into the reactive separation column and removing a water stream comprising the water and the dehydrating agent from a top end of the reactive separation column; and removing a bisphenol stream comprising the bisphenol from the reactive separation column. |
