The present invention relates to a novel process for the oxidative esterification, generally for the reaction of aldehydes with alcohols in the presence of oxygen-containing gases directly to the corresponding ester in the presence of a heterogeneous contact, by means of which, for example, (meth) acrolein can be converted to methyl (meth) acrylate. The catalysts used according to the invention are characterized in particular by a high mechanical and chemical stability and by a good catalytic performance even over very long periods of time. This relates in particular to an improvement in the catalyst lifetime, the activity and the selectivity over prior art catalysts which relatively rapidly lose activity and / or selectivity in media with even low water content in continuous operation. The special feature of this novel catalyst according to the invention is that it has titanium dioxide as the main component of the support material. |
