A description is given of an electrolysis system, for example an electrolysis cell (EZ), with a connection between an anolyte circuit and a catholyte circuit. By means of this connection between the anolyte circuit and the catholyte circuit, an intermediate product produced on the cathode side can be introduced into the anode space (AR) of the system as a starting product, for example carbon monoxide (CO) or carbon dioxide (C0 2 ) or a mixture of the two substrates can be reduced at the cathode (K) to form ethylene (C 2 H 4 ) and this can be further converted in the anode space (AR), with a byproduct of the anode reaction, for example bromide (Br 2 ). |
