The present invention is related to a varnish for a publication gravure ink and to a composition for making said varnish, wherein said varnish comprises the reaction product of tall oil pitch, an α,β-unsaturated carboxyl acid, and an amine, in the form of a salt thereof wherein the counter-ion is a metal in the oxidation state +II, preferably Ca 2+ , together with a resin having a softening point above 80°C. The present invention is furthermore related to a printing ink composition comprising said varnish, to a method of making said varnish and printing ink, and to the use of said printing ink in publication gravure printing. |
