abstract A gas generator (1A) includes a housing, a partition member (70A) which divides a space in the housing into a combustion chamber (S1) where a gas generating agent (60) is accommodated and a filter chamber (S2) where a filter (80) is accommodated, and a sealed container (50) which externally seals the gas generating agent (60). The filter (80) has a hollow portion (81) which reaches an axial end surface located on a side of the combustion chamber (S1). The sealed container (80) is made of a member relatively low in mechanical strength so as to burst or melt as a result of burning of the gas generating agent (60). The partition member (70A) is made of a member relatively high in mechanical strength such that only a portion opposed to the hollow portion (81) bursts as a result of burning of the gas generating agent (60) to provide a communication hole which allows communication between the combustion chamber (S1) and the filter chamber (S2) with each other.
