titleOfInvention Method for friction stir welding and friction-stir-welded workpiece
abstract The invention relates to a method for the friction stir welding of two material pieces of greatly differing melting temperatures, wherein the first material piece (12) is overlapped by the second material piece (14). The rotating pin (38) of the friction stir welding tool (10) provides for butt welding and overlap welding simultaneously in that the pin (38) is moved along the end face (22) and contacts the end face either not at all or at most minimally. The same also applies to the extensive side (30) of the first material piece (12), which first material piece is overlapped by the less stable material piece (14).
